We’ve always known this.

So she should get 2 social security payments after her husband dies?
Yes. Our thieving govt, by forcibly taking the SS taxes from my parents, deprived them from being able to invest those funds elsewhere.
Had they been allowed to do so, they would have had the benefit of those funds on matter who outlived who.
But The Man must keep his ponzi scheme going at all costs. Otherwise, the music stops and the whole thing tumbles down.
Do you honestly think it's right to deprive widows/widowers of their deceased spouse's SS?

Investing with common sense would produce inequitable outcomes
Better to raise taxes
Better to raise taxes

quote:Yes, you. Me. All of us. We put money into the system not into our personal savings accounts. SS taxes are no different than all of the other taxes we pay. Do you expect to get all of your money back for regular taxes too? If so...are you in for some disappointment.
What the frick? I didn't make the comment he's replying to, but I agree with it. "They", meaning people like ME, are the reason the scam will continue, and the country will go bankrupt?!?!?!
People like ME are the bad guy for wanting back the money I put into the system?
SS, Medicare and interest make up a yuge portion of our spending:
Yet, payroll taxes that fund SS and Mediare... only make up about 1/3 of our taxes:
The math simply doesn't work unless you make massive cuts to defense spending and/or default on the debt to even come close to balancing the budget. Meaning our debt is going to grow until it cannot grow any more. It's simple math.
We are already running deficits of $1 T every 100 days or so... and SS/Medi spending is never going down...
Any bets on that black line going down over time?
quote:I get it. But the time to do something about the government's fiscal irresponsibility was two decades ago (or more). The government has been "borrowing" from SS funding for decades. They stole "your money" a long time ago. We, the people, let this happened. We kept voting the same arseholes in over-and-over-and-over. And we, the voters, demand more and more government spending. Look how you are reacting to cutting to SS. It's wildly unpopular. Who is at fault?
Or is my only recourse to just accept getting nothing at all AND not bitch about it? The former may not be an option, but the latter is an option. And I WILL bitch about it.
quote:It's fine. I know no one wants to hear the realities of being scammed.
BTW, I sincerely apologize if I'm misunderstanding what you're saying.
