People who exercise, eat healthy, etc end up being financially penalized at the expense of obese diabetics.
Yes, it is true that some illnesses are not at all connected with personal life style choice, but a HUGE chunk of tax dollars would end up going to diseases that have their origins in personal bad habits
At least in the current system, you can theoretically choose your plan type and your premiums/deductible.
Under single payer, You can’t choose a “tax plan” that taxes you less and makes you pay more up front for medical services. It’s a one size fits all unfair scheme that penalizes activity and healthy habits

Go walk around your local Wal-Mart and ask if you want to be on a government run health plan with those people

Except under current system you can choose different levels
Are you suggesting we have a tax system under single payer where tax payers can choose their tax rate?

I am suggesting that your personal health means dick all in how much your premiums are. You shouldn’t have brought that up at all if you wanted to compare single payer to what we have now

Now days, personal responsibility is frowned upon.

healthy people can choose lower premium/higher deductible plans if they want
Under single payer, you cannot “choose” a irs tax scheme where you pay less in taxes but pay more up front for med services

Sure they can. And so can 400lb wildabeasts. The premium includes the risk from that wildabeast. You shouldn’t have started your argument the way you did because it happens in our current system.

It’s wealth redistribution dressed up as an essential service.
