Can't be.
The Muslims also believe Jesus was born to a virgin. They believe him to be a prophet of Allah.
Had to be to appease athiests.

Also if Christians would stop being ignorant of their own faith they would not celebrate Christmas either.
Especially if they were not Catholic.
First the Bible never tells a Christian to celebrate Christ's birth but instead tells you to celebrate his death and resurrection.
Second according to the Bible he was not born on Dec 25 and not even in the whole month of Dec.
He was born according to the bible during the Jewish feast of Sukkot.
Especially if they were not Catholic.

You really need to tell Trump and Protestants about how they shouldn't be celebrating Christmas.

Believe me I inform "christians" all the time.
I am a christian myself but and I take 2 Timothy 2:15
To heart.
Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.

I wonder...has anyone on this board besides me ever done some serious research into the so-called 3 great religions? Just curious...

Yes
I have studied many religions in depth.
It fits with my love of history.
Of all the religions I've studied I have only come across one that can do zero harm regardless of you becoming the most radical adherent of it's tenants.
Jainism. The more radicalized you are the more docile you become.

Not only this, but neither "Islam" nor "Muslims" were referenced in the entire article. So shitty OP as well
Well, let me help you through the logic. The article says 'offends other religions'. Therefore, we can throw out atheists. Thus, we are left with Jews and Muslims. I don't think the Jews mind the lyrics.

Muslims have no more reason to be offended by the lyrics than Jews. There are also a few more religions in the world than three.
You were being sensationalist with your headline and OP. Just admit it and move on.

You just contradicted yourself. The first sentence grants that the piece was about Muslims or Jews. The second sentence implies that Muslims must be offended or the title is wrong. The title is about the motivation for the city to ban the lyrics. If their motivation is wrong because Muslims aren't offended then the city is wrong, not the title.
Or, perhaps you think the city banned the lyrics because the mayor was having a bad hair day.

That was the most illogical drivel I've read on this board in a while, and that's an incredibly high bar to get over

Here's some more logic for you (normally I get paid for this).
You just did what is called a 'sluff' in debate. A sluff goes like this:
Josh: 'X' is true.
Zach's response: 'X' is false due to reasons 'A', 'B' and 'C'
Josh's response: 'X' is true.
And to think I gave you guys 24 hours to request a title change and I got nary a one. Very reasonable on my part.

So do I, and I imagine I can bill far more per hour for it than you ;)
But sure, let's play:
First, the article is internally inconsistent. At various points, it says the reason for this lyrical limitation is that it "will" or "could" offend "other religions". Not citation for this is given. However, when a quote by an opponent is given, it says the following:
quote:
Elena Franceschini, the culture commissioner for the town of Bresciano, said: "Even if the state and the school claim to be secular, we would like to have ‘Christmas Concerts’ and not ‘Winter Recitals’ where children can feel free to sing Holy Night without thinking that this offends or excludes pupils who belong to other cultures or other religions or who declare to be atheists.”
In short, your article can't even figure out who is supposed to be offended by the lyrics.
Second, we'll look at your posts in particular:
quote:
Well, let me help you through the logic. The article says 'offends other religions'. Therefore, we can throw out atheists. Thus, we are left with Jews and Muslims. I don't think the Jews mind the lyrics.
So we'll ignore atheists, in spite of what your article actually quoted from an opponent. According to your post, "offends other religions" can only refer to Judaism and Islam. How you decided that only Abrahamic religions exist is beyond me. According to the demographic statistics conveniently supplied by Wikipedia, the religious makeup of Italy in descending order is Christianity (92%), none (5%), (and each below 2%) Islam, Budddhism, Hinduism, Sikhism, and Judaism.
So plenty of religions which could conceivably be offended other than Jews and Muslims. But, if we ignore those other religions for the sake of argument, there is still nothing to support your assertion that Jews wouldn't "mind the lyrics", thus implying that Muslims would.
I just pulled the lyrics to Silent Night, and literally the only lyrics that could offend a non-Christian member of an Abrahamic faith is a repetition of "Christ the Savior is born". This is not only contrary to the doctrine of Judaism and Islam, but frankly has more bite for Jews than Muslims, in my opinion.
Now, we could stop there, but I'm enjoying my cup of tea, so let's move to your second post:
quote:
You just contradicted yourself. The first sentence grants that the piece was about Muslims or Jews.
Nope. I was simply stating that Muslims have no more reason to be offended by the lyrics than Jews (fixed for Zach), contradicting your assertion otherwise. That in no way precludes other religions being offended as well.
quote:
The second sentence implies that Muslims must be offended or the title is wrong. The title is about the motivation for the city to ban the lyrics. If their motivation is wrong because Muslims aren't offended then the city is wrong, not the title. Or, perhaps you think the city banned the lyrics because the mayor was having a bad hair day.
This is just an internally incoherent mess. Again, the article never mentions Muslims. Not once. You managed to be even more sensationalist than a sensationalist clickbait article. That's impressive on some level, I suppose.
Please let me know which parts confused you; I'll try to use smaller words.

So, that's my fault? I didn't write it.

You just contradicted yourself again. 'None at 5%' is thrown out because the text says specifically 'religion.'
The next 5 go from below 2% to where? 3 people in Ville Platte? The 'number' of religions is not large at all unless you count religions like Satanists, Zoroastrianism, Church of the Gooey Death, etc. The number of people in the US who are not atheists nor Christians = Muslims and Jews.
quote:
I was simply stating that Muslims have no more reason to be offended by the lyrics than Muslims,
That's some pretty bad logic there, Josh. Let me try. My dog Sammy is no more disobedient than my dog Sammy.

Sluff. You're not learning. I already conceded the point and refuted so you respond by repeating the original point.

Oh, I understand everything you write. In fact, you're one of the more concise writers on the board. We call it 'word economy.' The wordiest writers I've encountered IRL are retired military officers. You need to bring a sammich if you're gonna pour through their shite.

Simply because I included the full table instead of excising the "nones" for you doesn't make it a contradiction
Now, you simply ignore the facts. Muslims make up the largest religious minority (1.9%) while Jews make up the smallest (0.1%). The other religions I listed fall between.
Beyond that, you mostly ignored what I posted, so I'll just continue enjoying my cup of tea

I'm not going to say that tea drinkers tend to be homosexuals because that would be mean spirited. I had my quad espresso at opening time and it's now wearing off enough to take my mid day nap with Sammy, the very well behaved Aussie.
Happy New Year, Josh.

Haha I like it
It actually depends on my mood. Had a cup of Rooibos this morning (was feeling reminiscent of my time visiting South Africa) and I'm now heating some water for a nice French Press cup of coffee. As for espresso drinks, I'm a Cortado man, myself
Also, the obligatory:
Happy New Year, Zach
