Generally because they were thought to be protected by goddesses, who were women.

Are you saying because a vessel has what would traditionally be considered a woman’s name it has a gender?

Do we agree that it's normal to refer to boats using she/her pronouns?

No, you bigot. You don’t get to guess the pronouns based on a name. You’re disgusting.

Yeah.

Nice!

I like that we can agree now and then.

We can also agree that boats lack female genitalia, yeah?

Nice to assume pronouns based solely off of a name? Your side has told me that is bigoted. You’re a bigot.

Nice.

It's also ridiculous to think that boats have female genitalia. So using she/her pronouns is not reserved only for females. Can we agree?

This is such a dumb argument. Are you saying a name determines pronouns? Wow. You bigot.

Unnamed boats are traditionally also referred to with she/her pronouns. You're not making the hilarious point you think you're making.

You are digging your your heels on a really dumb, irrelevant analogy. But... you think you've got your "gotcha".

Sure.

And we can also agree that there are no actual fingers in whiskey when you pour it.

It's almost like words have multiple meanings that—while they may be used to evoke a metaphor in another situation—mean completely different things in different contexts and applied to different things.

It's not an analogy. It's a direct use of gender, but NOT sex.

They are different.

At first I thought he was trolling and while I think doing stuff like that is immature, it at least seemed somewhat clever.

But he's serious, so now I know he's an idiot.

Typical liberal projection.

Answer the question. Does a name determine pronouns? Yes or no.

Only it's not. No more than pouring three fingers of Maker's Mark is a direct use of an anatomical term.

You're losing the plot with this one. Let's try and get you back on track.

Sex and gender are different ideas. Much like anatomy and measurement.

Can you come up with some examples (beyond boats, I gave you that one for free) of gendered pronouns for things that don't have any sex? There's plenty in English, I bet you can!

Unless 2+2=3
Cause at the 1st of the month or when that grant/federal aid is due, their mathematics gets MF’er real, real fast.
