Serious question, how do they separate their personal emails from White House stuff?

A babysitter is a great example, or weekend dinner? So they email friends and say I'll be in NYC this weekend, want to get dinner?

Media says 'woah Kushner is using private email to tell friends he is going to the NATO convention' or whatever.

I'm just curious what the protocol is for that?
