“While we feel we have a strong case for an exemption regardless of the Hobby Lobby ruling, the Supreme Court has decided that religious beliefs are so sacrosanct that they can even trump scientific fact,” Satanic Temple spokesperson Lucian Greaves said in a Monday statement. ”This was made clear when they allowed Hobby Lobby to claim certain contraceptives were abortifacients, when in fact they are not. Because of the respect the Court has given to religious beliefs, and the fact that our our beliefs are based on best available knowledge, we expect that our belief in the illegitimacy of state mandated ‘informational’ material is enough to exempt us, and those who hold our beliefs, from having to receive them.”

This is pretty much what Ruth Bader Ginsburg was talking about in her dissent when she said the justices had “ventured into a minefield.”

Be interesting to see what closely held company files an objection based on their Satanic belief.

Or...this is just a stupid publicity stunt and not suit will actually be filed.

Well, when you take a nation that was founded on strong principles of freedom and then try to inject government into something as complex and wide-ranging as healthcare, this is the kind of mess that is going to be the result.

BTW, the satanic group's reasoning is pretty weak (i.e. "This was made clear when they allowed Hobby Lobby to claim certain contraceptives were abortifacients, when in fact they are not")

Say what?

File and let the court decide.

Too easy.

From what I can tell, this is not on behalf of a company or companies, but for individuals.

I know one damn thing... for certain, I would expect the Satanic temple to have a spokesperson with a name like Lucian Greaves. Anybody want to take a 100$ bet that Lucian had his head put in a toilet when he was in 8th grade?

Pre-abortion counseling isn't part of obamacare...it's part of pro-life laws instituted in several states - most notably TX.

Isn't the counseling medical science based and not religious?

Exactly, so I don't know that Hobby Lobby applies. Just a stupid PR stunt.

If the state is mandating religious counseling that would be easy to strike down. He must be talking motive behind the law not its content.

I think it's about whether or not there is a medical necessity for the counseling.

I think they intend on applying the individual religious objection and the law regarding religious rights. The argument would be that the counseling violates their religious beliefs.

But what if the counseling isn't religious based? Not that I really care.

I'm not sure we need all the info we get for medically related stuff.

Every time I get a prescription it comes with a 10 page sheet of disclosures and side effects. I just want to know how many and how often to take the stuff.
