Agreed, but what should we do about Russia?

The oil embargo actually backfired.
Russia is better off, and we are hurting.

No, it says Russia’s export revenues have been falling since March, which they have, yet it has set record energy revenue. Energy being one segment.
The US is still playing out of the corrupt, geriatric foreign policy playbook. Should be another month or two until Ukraine is brought to heel. This whole NATO (US directed) conflict is stupid.

Yes
People laugh, but this autarchy has been good for them.
They’ve been forced to develop their own native IT industry, for example, and they’ve relearned how to make diesel motors, instead of buying them from Asian manufacturers.
If they were a smaller, poorer country, without the human capital, sanctions could have really hurt them. But instead it forced them to develop their own domestic economy in ways that are hugely beneficial.
Imagine if we were cut off from China tomorrow. There would be immediate and terrible pain, but we would replace those missing goods with American ones, made here in the United States. It would be expensive, and it would take time. But it would be a good thing.
