My ENT specialist, allergist, at UMC-Healthcare is one of the leading researchers in the country and had an intricate part in developing the current alpha-gal/ SigE test.

She wholeheartedly believes it’s a genetically modified version of the Lonestar tick, why is it only a feature of one specific variety of tick and why is it specifically transmitted through a very specific sugar protein of the Lonestar tick as other ticks produce the exact same sugar protein, yet do not pass on Alpha-gal syndrome to their host?

For the record, I do not have Alpha-gal Syndrome, though I’ve been tested for it through a blood draw. I developed a food allergy in my 40’s and haven’t been able to pinpoint a trigger, even after multiple back panels and blood work. Was just in her office last Wednesday for my monthly Xolair injections and we were having this conversation.

Alpha-gal sucks as most people who are infected with it don’t start to feel the anaphylactic symptoms until 3-6 hours after ingesting mammalian meat tissue, but with proper care it does fade out of your system in 2-4 years.
