I was in Tokyo in October and had dinner with a group of women I've known for 30 years. A group I would hardly call right wing.
I asked them what they thought of the new PM and they said they loved her. They didn't mention anything about Muslims but did say they were tired of so much money going to other countries. That money needs to be spent more in Japan.
This new PM seems to be connecting with moderates.

UPDATE - It’s being reported by local fire officials that this was not arson - as much as the Right Wingers would like it to be.
This shrine houses an eternal flame which was probably the culprit. It burned before in 2005 and was rebuilt.
For the record, those hardcore Right Wingers in Japan - in the black vans driving around spewing hate speech - are nut jobs. Few people take them seriously.
