Would you agree or disagree with the statement that they are aligned on over 95 percent of issues?

215 (96%) of 223 Republican Representatives voted for the resolution.

83 (40%) of 209 Democratic Representatives voted for the resolution.

47 (96%) of 49 Republican senators voted for the resolution.

29 (58%) of 50 Democratic senators voted for the resolution.

They both sucked then and they both suck now.

I think it’s fair to say Republicans were largely pro war then and are largely pro war now. I think it’s also fair to say that there is a trend away from pro war within the GOP that has been evidenced in actions such as votes regarding Ukraine and the almost wholesale defection of Neocons to the Democrats. I think it’s fair to say the Democrats were split on pro war then and are largely pro war now.

It’s fair to say that it was the democrats who mounted an opposition against the war. Those numbers show it, and anyone who was keeping up with things remembers it. Republicans can try to gaslight people into thinking it was the dems, but it’s provable that isn’t true.

I’m not disputing that Republicans led the charge and Democrats, including most all major voices like Hillary and Biden) went along with it. None of them should get a pass.

But most of that lot is one side now: the Democrats, and they are largely pro war. And the ones mounting an opposition to pro war, that used to be rank and file Democrats, are now largely America First Republicans.

So context of the past and present are both necessary.

Most democrats voted against it, but yet you just flippantly say, “oh they were both for it and both suck.” One side sucked way more than the other.

Explain how democrats are pro war now as compared to republicans? Biden got us out of Afghanistan. And republicans crucified him for it.

Yes, Republicans sucked more than Democrats back then on war. I think that’s clear from the vote totals I posted. But almost half House Democrats and over half Senate Democrats, along with most leading voices and multiple party presidential nominees, voted for war. That’s not being flippant to point this out as part of the reality.

Republicans crucified him for how he did it, which almost everyone agrees was quite the boondoggle. Some Republicans (Crenshaw, et al) wanted to stay forever and they suck because of it. There’s still a large pro war part of the GOP.

The facts that most all of the Neocons have moved to the Democrats, most Democrats are enthusiastically funding war in Ukraine, and the rising emergence of an anti war America First component of the GOP are signals of a paradigm shift in the parties regarding the exercise of American power in the global field.

Cool, Bush/Cheney/McCain suck balls.

Also, they are NeoCons, not Republicans.
