Your breathing emits carbon you got from plants (or from animals who got it from plants). That carbon is already in the cycle and doesn't contribute to a net increase.

Carbon that was buried miles underground, brought to the surface, and burned isn't in the cycle and does contribute.

Sigh.

Because the government uses taxes conservatively...they never expand them for more "revenue"

Is almost like you're wilfully ignorant.

If it makes you feel any better nothing will come of this meeting. (Well, I guess the fixers who set it up will get paid.) Republican Cabinet secretaries have been banging the carbon tax drum for years, nobody listens because it's Congress that matters, and in Congress if you don't line up behind the Heartland talking points you'll get primaried like Bob Inglis did.

A carbon tax doesn't establish an emissions credit exchange. You're thinking about cap-and-trade.

It is a step on the road to cap and trade.

Just like socialism is a step to Marxism.

Remember taxation is the power to destroy.
When a new AGW zealot comes to power they can just increase the carbon tax on the businesses they don't like and effectively close their doors.

frick taxing all carbon emission. At least set an industry standard that is tax free and the tax only kicks in if companies get reckless and release above that amount.

If they impose a tax while reducing regs it will not incentivize companies to be environment friendly. They'll pour pollutants into the air to operate cheaper and pass the tax onto the consumer while reaping profits.

Just set a reasonable standard and do away with unnecessary regulations, and impose heavy fines for those who break that standard.

Where does the fricking tax go? Or is it just another way for Al Gore and his buddies to make money?

Why tax carbon? Why not tax fish? They're the ones swimming around crapping in the water.

So a bunch of people who don't have any power any more are coming in for a talk?

That's nice.

Why tax plant food in the air? Maybe a few degrees warmer is a good thing. It certainly let the Romans do things like grow grapes in northern England, and it made the early middle ages in Europe a time of plenty before the plague (coinciding with a drastic climate cooling) decimated the population and made farming more difficult. Do people not realize we are in a temporary warm spell in the middle of an ice age?

Even I don't support a carbon tax

I support tax breaks for companies that are good environmental stewards.. and would support massive tax breaks to companies who place tracts of land in conservation easements
