I remember. All the baws of 2003 were cheering as W invaded and were saying how wonderful the new "free" Iraq would be. Then it all collapsed. And all the baws claimed they were never for the war to begin with.

Obviously there are real concerns about Gaza.

But the two situations are nothing alike.

Iraq is a large country sitting on oil fields and populated with multiple religious and ethnic sects that borders iran. Gaza is a 140 square mile enclave wedged between Egypt and Israel and is about the size of Jackson, MS, ruled by Sunnis and Hamas.

We invaded and began a war in Iraq. There is no war here. Israel has already done that and leveled the place.

The two entities and the circumstances are nothing alike.

I think the idea is a bold, novel idea worth exploring and I think that is just what Trump is doing. I’ve often in the past wondered about Gaza because it is small, strategic, on the Med, and really does have a wonderful coast. If all buy in, specifically the people on the ground, Arab countries, Israel…I think it could be something really transformative. It has resources. The terrorist, fundamentalist Hamas would have to be removed and replaced with smart, money making Arab resources. It would have to acquire more international nature. But the possibilities are real and certainly more beneficial than the status quo.

So we’ll see what happens. A lot of factors could prevent Gaza from ever getting better, including a dirty secret but real one: the Arabs don’t want the Gazans in their countries, even temporarily. Arabs view Gazans as trash. For this to work, the Arabs have to be sold that this is a financial long term good investment for them.

The most interesting thing about the Iraq war was the left wing journalists who were invited to travel along with our troops. They went in ready to reveal what stupid racist thugs the troops were. They ended up admitting how cooperative, brave and efficient they were.

I cheered on the war in Iraq at the time since then I realized that all these wars are not for the intended purpose but to make elites more rich so now I have done complete 180. I’m against all wars unless America is being directly attacked.

I’m sure there are plenty more people out there just like me. We, not like you, can change our minds when more evidence comes forward in the years after that show us something different then what we believed at the time.
I don’t get your attempt at a “gotcha” thread.

Because the first foray into Iraq to push them out of Kuwait was a cake walk. We thought part II would be similar. But we are just dumb civilians who don't know any better. It doesn't make us cucks or warmongers.

I don't believe Trump intends to send us troops anywhere near Gaza.

Further, Trump can't stand BiBi

So this Gaza Riviera thing is just some sort of Trump deal making diversion . He is not going to war this term, short of being attacked. It would destroy his budgets and his legacy.

No thanks, BiBi and evangelicals.
