There are obvious facts in both cases that overcome any supposed cognitive dissonance. I'm not in either in-group, as I've barely discussed this situation or J6. They are both events perpetrated by morons.
But there is a canyon of difference between an armed situation where a cop was shot and a protest. I don't believe any J6 attendee was found to be armed.
Shooting a cop is a line you cannot cross, especially while attacking a federal law enforcement facility. Every single person there is lucky they are not in prison for life, or were not shot on site.
