Actually it should be after a conviction and ALL legal appeals in court are exhausted and there is no doubt at all about the defendant's guilt.
That's to far IMO. We don't let people stay out of prison until all appeals are exhausted, and your personal freedom is more important that personal property. If they are later exonerated then they can file a 1983 for what was taken (or should be able to).

No surprise Rand is the one to initiate this, since he's one of the few who maintains his principles, and actually tries to decrease government overreach.
Unfortunately, I don't think many know much about CAF, and the legislation probably won't get the attention it deserves. Hopefully, I'm wrong, or better yet, it passes.

Now THIS is what I call MAGA.

CAF is an abomination to anything close to freedom.
At best it occasionally deters crime. At worst it's literal highway robbery. It closes the gap between a traffic stop and robbery at gunpoint.
Even worse is the Faustian deal most police officers made to take the blood money. All that does is blacken their image in the eyes of civilians.

Even that is too short sighted. There's currently no balance between what an innocent person in prison loses and the prosecutor that puts him there loses through misconduct.

Sad thing is Trump will likely veto it if it makes it that far so hopefully they can get a veto proof majority with a majority of the democrats and enough republicans
Why do you think Trump would veto it?

I am glad to see Rand doing this. I think he has the President's ear and will be pushing harder on important matters as we move forward.
Umm Trump loves Eminent Domain so Idk
