over 1/3 of disability claims are mental

Can confirm.
I work as a loan officer and lots of people call in asking for modifications and assistance, reason being disability, disability being "mental disability"
A bunch of BS

Bipolar disorder and major depressive disorder are no joke. I've seen them hurt a ton of people.

So we should just enable them with SSI to sit on their arse and not be productive?

It's a question of fraud. Lots of people are on disability because they have a 'bad back.' Do you think they all have severe back pain?

The thing I liked about Pete was that he later became a folk music historian. He tried to recreate the songs and styles of 19th century America before we had recordings.

This is true. My Bi-polar disorder/MDD, and schizophrenia can be pretty rough to deal with at times, but never enough for me to fricking quit on life, and collect (or even apply for) disability.

So if their bi poplar buy their fricking meds but don't put them on the tax payers backs! At a time when so many can't find work mainly because they have no skills to offer an employee ,they can run down to the SS office and say their fricked in the head. there are many people who are bi- polar that work just fine.buy their meds.

No shite. Mental disability is the single easiest way to game the system. Same for work disability.

Mood disorder is not a "specific diagnosis". Major depressive disorder and legitimate* bipolar disorder can be quite disabling.
*No, your bitchy friend or a-hole uncle are not bipolar. They have a personality disorder, in all likelihood.

Well, of course it is. There are no lab tests or diagnostic images at a physician's disposal. I read somewhere that an estimated 50% of disability cases related to mental health claims are thought to be malingered.
In my opinion, this is why there is such a huge need for decent psychiatrists with an ounce of diagnostic savvy (preferably forensically trained) to weed out the fakers.

Bi-polar is caused by the imbalance of neurotransmitters in the brain which can easily be dealt with drugs to treat it. It is not some all encompassing disability that leaves one dysfunctional for the rest of his/her days.

Nevermind, not worth it.
