Quarantining is reddit's way of banning a community while avoiding the negative PR hit they would take if they outright banned the community. It all but kills the communities, I've never seen a reddit sub survive after being quarantined

Speech hasn’t been free for a while now. It’s sad how far we have fallen, why can’t the left just accept differing viewpoints? I thought their entire premise was built on equality?

What's the difference between banning and quarantining? I'm not a reddit user.

It's usually a prelude to being completely banned.

Can someone explain what that means? What exactly is quarantined? Is it not banned?

1. You have to subscribe to the subreddit to view it

2. You have to accept a warning disclaimer to enter the subreddit

3. It doesn't let you access it on the reddit app

4. It hides the subreddit from your list of subreddits, you have to manually type in the sub

5. It is hidden from reddit search results and /r/all

6. It doesn't show up in your post history

7. Advertisers aren't allowed to advertise on it

8. Custom CSS subreddit designs don't work as well

I'm not either but from what I understand it sort of handicaps the forum, makes it user unfriendly and while not a technical ban, people just give up on it.

This but most subreddits just outright die as a result of quarantine

The real issue is that it prevents the subreddit from growing, because people who don't know about it are unable to find it unless someone else tells them about it or links it.

This. Every time I post on the political board there, I get a minimum of 70-80 downvotes. Its like 95% psycho libtards. But I would say the overwhelming majority of reddit users are from California
