Wait ... what? I'm not paying 10k more for a car and 40 more for a can of soup???

quote:

Despite many claims that the tariffs would hurt U.S. consumers, they have not. For months, data have defied predictions of tariff-led inflation. And now it is indisuputably clear: the metals and China tariffs have not raised consumer prices. The Department of Labor said Friday that its consumer price index was up just 2.0 percent compared with a year ago, indicating that prices are not rising particularly quickly. The Federal Reserve says it targets 2 percent inflation, although it uses a different measure of prices.

OH NO!!!!
quote:

“Trump’s trade war may soon hit consumers’ wallets and paychecks,” NBC News declared in a headline last year.

“Tariffs will surely lead to higher prices for imported goods and, to a lesser extent, prices for non-imported goods that use imported materials,” the University of Pennsylvania’s business school Wharton reported.

“Tariffs are about to hit consumers, and it won’t be pretty,” CNBC claimed.

You mean WILBUR was right???? What? NO.... IB PROMISED he had Trump THIS time.

90 Proof was certain HRC would now be inserted into office because Trump is a meanie head on tariffs...

quote:

Commerce Secretary Wilbur Ross, however, said all of these predictions of higher prices were wrong. To the contrary, Ross argued tariffs would have little to no effect on U.S. consumers. He held up cans of Campbell’s soup and Budweiser beer to illustrate his point that the metals input into most consumer prices was very low and unlikely to rise. When prices did not rise as predicted, the critics did not back off their claims. Many just moved the time frame, arguing that the forecast price increases were just taking time to move through the economy. But now that a year has passed, that an increasingly absurd position.

tf are you babbling about, you sound completely unhinged

also

$900K per job in the case of the metals tariffs

full pass-thru to consumer in the case of the washing machine ones, and a matching price increase on dryers, which aren't even tariffed

$1.4 billion reduction in real US income per month in 2018 due to the other china tariffs

both import AND export growth between us & china plummeting

no deal, despite multiple delays in implementation

Not so fast, my friend. I bought a package of toilet paper (made in China) for 3.29 before Trump. Now, it costs me 3.31.

Yes I forgive you. I don't feel like arguing with you but I will laugh at citing Breitbart and Ole Wilbur.

How about ignoring the Breitbart article and just going to any fricking store and comparing prices of ANYTHING today to like 3-4 years ago.

The difference is anywhere from -3% to +3%. Which means there's no difference from anything Trump has done on trade policy.

But you go on trying to discredit the messenger, because that's all you got... along with the big fricking YOU'RE WRONG plastered across your arse.

There is so much spin in that article.

Most finished products have yet to be tariffed like phones and TVs.

We are paying 25% more for steel than in 2017 and the author says it has no impact???

The washing machine twist is just silly. Washing machines cost a lot more now than they did in 2017 and the guy is trying to only talk about new tariffs after the foolish "anti dumping" tariffs having little effect. He flippantly says
quote:

We’re now more than a year into the anti-dumping tariffs imposed in January of last year on washing machines. These were intended to drive up the price from artificially depressed levels and accomplished that goal last year.
Which means "after we screwed the American washing machine consumers badly our new new tariffs do no screw them as much?.

Even mentioning toys is stupid. None of those tariffs went on until September and every major retailer has their toys in the country for Christmas before then. He should look at those prices now vs December.

That is called dumping you balloonhead. But then I'm sure you are all for that.

Toys have not been a part of the tariff's previously. I do not know about this latest round.

Oh no, Americans will have to pay a whopping $86 more every half a decade for these Chinese appliances that break down in 5 years so their neighbors don’t have to work at 7/11. A travesty.

I see you don’t mention why which is a probably a good strategy for you considering how unpersuasive it is for your position.
Reuters

quote:

The document was riddled with reversals by China that undermined core U.S. demands, the sources told Reuters.

In each of the seven chapters of the draft trade deal, China had deleted its commitments to change laws to resolve core complaints that caused the United States to launch a trade war: Theft of U.S. intellectual property and trade secrets; forced technology transfers; competition policy; access to financial services; and currency manipulation.

U.S. President Donald Trump responded in a tweet on Sunday vowing to raise tariffs on $200 billion worth of Chinese goods from 10 to 25 percent on Friday – timed to land in the middle of a scheduled visit by China’s Vice Premier Liu He to Washington to continue trade talks.

Guys, the only answer to China doing all these things (Theft of U.S. intellectual property and trade secrets; forced technology transfers; competition policy; access to financial services; and currency manipulation) is unconditional surrender to them. Trump is bad for fighting on our behalf.
