It’s a common occurrence to see guys riding atv’s in DC. Cops don’t do shite about it anymore.

Once they decide to off road it and run, not a whole lot the police can do about it. Some of those ATV's are fast as heck.

MS has the worst drivers in the world. I pray every time I pass some biker trying to get a little exercise. Throw atvs and golf carts out there and it would look like Death Race 2000

My understanding is that it is in fact illegal to ride an ATV on public roads (Ms) but all the leo can do is tell to get off the road. No fine or recourse other than get the machine off of the public road. I am sure had this happened in Ms, the officer would have been in pursuit and probably similar outcome.

I wonder why, "Speeding, no lights, under the influence" are against the law?

a man crashed...and died

Hmmm, that could be it.

Naw, it must be something else, I blame the government!

There are a lot of urban ATV clubs in major cities. In Atlanta they will meet up somewhere in the hood and about 50 or more of them will blow through midtown and downtown hauling arse in a pack. It’s pretty funny to see them all popping wheelies and cutting corners across sidewalks. In the middle of the high rises it is loud as hell. Last one I saw was about 6 months ago in Midtown. Cops were behind them with sirens blaring and lights on and the ATVs right in front of them doing wheelies. It was amusing.

People break the law everyday, you don't need to chase them to the ends of the earth for a stupid Misdo.

It's called smarts, discretion and caring about the safety of humans.

L.A. practically had to blackmail the fricking L.A.P.D. into stopping these high speed pursuits for a simple traffic violation after they were killing civilians and the traffic violator was crashing into cars.

It's a fricking traffic violation.

It's not life and death.

And before you say, we'll they didn't know if the guy was a murderer...they did.

Reports stated they would still chase the guy after running his plates and no warrants out for arrest.

So L.A. basically said if the guy takes off and you can't catch him in a reasonable manner, let him go...you are killing people over a $100 fine.

They would chase these guys until kingdom come, made for popular T.V. and these chases would last forever...wrecking havoc in the city.

Sounds like they're using the Hillary Clinton defense. He didn't INTEND to break the law. No intent, therefore no violation. He was innocent.

I’m deeply concerned with people who think that this has anything to do with racism.

I have to agree. The guy was on an ATV at 1am. Was he really a threat to public safety? I don't agree with giving speeding tickets to people when they are the only ones on a long stretch of highway either. If he is just being a danger to himself, then why should the police care? It seems to be an ego thing for the cops. They act like a guy riding an ATV at 1am or speeding no matter the circumstance is a personal affront to them.

That being said, the dude was drunk and crashed. That's on him. The police shouldn't be held accountable in this instance, but the policies should change. If police action is going to create a greater threat just for a minor infraction, then they should let it go. Cops would get a lot more respect if they actually served and protected instead of collecting fines and harassing people over minor offenses.

DWI is more than $100 fine and yes you can get a DWI on a atv. Neither of us know how fast or how loud he was at 1 am.

Letting people go for simple offenses expands the problems. Upon checking in a bed and breakfast in San Francisco in March we were told don’t leave ANYTHING visible in our car. The police stopped enforcing laws so the homeless would break in for any little thing.

It’s a shame this young man died over this but to say he doesn’t carry the majority of blame is wrong. We need laws or we are just some third world shithole.
