That certainly is his most famous quote, and was from his "I Have a Dream" speech (his most famous speech). Jeez, where do you people come from?

Only a fricking idiot would disagree in this day and age of judging on content of character, period.

That is an awesome dream, and I applaud MLK for saying it.

He was not perfect, and neither are we.

Progressives avoiding MLK's most famous quote

I’d love for someone to justify the riots and violence this year, the current demand for racial segregation, and the constant frick white people rhetoric with this quote:

quote:

But there is something that I must say to my people who stand on the warm threshold which leads into the palace of justice. In the process of gaining our rightful place, we must not be guilty of wrongful deeds. Let us not seek to satisfy our thirst for freedom by drinking from the cup of bitterness and hatred.

We must forever conduct our struggle on the high plane of dignity and discipline. We must not allow our creative protest to degenerate into physical violence. Again and again, we must rise to the majestic heights of meeting physical force with soul force. The marvelous new militancy which has engulfed the Negro community must not lead us to a distrust of all white people, for many of our white brothers, as evidenced by their presence here today, have come to realize that their destiny is tied up with our destiny.

And they have come to realize that their freedom is inextricably bound to our freedom. We cannot walk alone. And as we walk, we must make the pledge that we shall always march ahead. We cannot turn back.

As it stands, you are accusing me of being a person who is unaware of or purposely ignoring MLK's radicalism because it is more comforting to think of him as a sanitized figure. That's a very strange and self-refuting accusation given I've spent this thread talking about MLK's radicalism.

I asked you to clarify because I suspect you misunderstood the sentence.

Conservatives really like it because it's usefulness in AA debates, but I've not seen anything to suggest this is actually true and quite a bit going the other way for instance Here

Anyway, it's a good quote -nothing wrong with it being your favorite.

A hard core leftist using homosexuality as an insult. What a surprise.

I don't see it as necessarily an insult. If he enjoys smoking cock, I am happy for him. Nevertheless, I apologize for offending your very delicate sensibilities.

Of course you meant it as an insult. That’s why you called him a Queen. You are disingenuous about your homophobic insult. Of course it would follow you are disingenuous in all of your posts. You have been outed. No pun intended.

I mean, fine, but the left was not the "they" in the sentence:

quote:

The critique from the left is that mainstream society misunderstands the man they now deify.

Mainstream society is. Which is why when you wrote:

quote:

Why do you say they when you are one of them?

I asked what you meant. I was going to clarify the ambiguity for you. But you then got all pissy, as is your wont...

Here's are some more from the same speech:

quote:

the fierce urgency of now.

quote:

I still have a dream. It is a dream deeply rooted in the American dream. I have a dream that one day this nation will rise up and live out the true meaning of its creed: We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal.

quote:

Free at last. Free at last. Thank God almighty, we are free at last.

That's your favorite because conservatives like it. That does not mean it is the most popular in general Or do you have some actual evidence that it is the most popular quote?
