Your article refers to young people as being hospitalized at a higher rate and has no data on average age of deaths. My assertion about deaths, not cases or hospitalizations, stands unblemished unless you have something better than that.
Makes sense that the average case age is younger. The virus has torn through the older folks. They have antibodies and if they are smart, (as mentioned in the article) made the decision to vaccinate.
State's vaccination rates will play a part. Deaths will still be largely among the elderly with comorbidities. The population, which denoted in your article, has the highest vaccination rate.
