Idk how many here remember the brilliance and wisdom of Paul Harvey, but all should spare the 10 minutes to listen. Your welcome.

In this broadcast, Paul Harvey provides a moving account of the sacrifices made by the signers of the Declaration of Independence. Rather than focusing on well-known legends, he highlights the personal and financial costs endured by the 56 men who pledged their lives, fortunes, and sacred honor to the American cause.
Key Highlights:
The Definition of Risk (0:38–1:04): Harvey notes that unlike most revolutionaries who have nothing to lose, the American Founders were wealthy, successful men who stood to lose everything they had built.
The Pledge (2:24–2:34): He emphasizes the gravity of the final line of the Declaration: "We mutually pledge to each other our lives, our fortunes and our sacred honor."
Personal Fates of the Signers (4:40–7:05): Harvey recounts the tragic stories of several men who lost their homes, families, and health due to their participation in the revolution, including:
*Carter Braxton*, who died in rags (4:40–4:51).
*Thomas Nelson Jr.*, who financed the war himself and had his own home destroyed by artillery at his request (5:31–5:58).
*John Hart*, who lived in forests and caves after his family was scattered and his property was laid waste (6:33–6:55).
The Significance of Liberty (8:07–9:16): Harvey concludes by reminding listeners that these men were not "wild-eyed pirates" or "malcontents," but prosperous citizens who ultimately valued Liberty over personal security and paid the price to ensure the birth of a free nation.
