we named her after a black lady that cleaned my parent's house a couple times a week when I was a teenager. I loved Mattie Belle like she was my family.

I think that’s sweet. We loved the lady that cleaned house for my family growing up. I miss her to this day.

Our labrador's name was Dixie (It was the name the kids picked, no weird historical perspective at all). Fortunately/unfortunately she died 2 years ago so we don't have to rename her lol.

My wife bought a miniature black poodle in the early 80s that I named Remus. I thought it was an appropriate name since I like the movie Song of the South.
