You don’t need big fighting forces anymore wars are no longer a ground game. Air superiority and naval positions win wars. Troops are now just clean up crews.

Yeah not sure about that.

I am a Mitchell disciple but air power alone has never held territory.

I mean, I wish it were true. That’d be cool. We could save a shite ton of money if we didn’t need an Army

It could be true under certain circumstances, but as a blanket claim it's retarded. It will certainly never apply to a situation like Iran.

My definition of a win would be a new regime in Iran that no longer funds, equips and trains proxy forces in the ME and is at least cordial and diplomatic with the us and its neighbors. Robust trade with them would be a bonus as well.

What a turn of events

Instead of rioting, Minneapolis residents are now coming out to support Donald Trump

“We are coming here today to celebrate how many dictators death in Iran. We are really supporting President Trump's decision to eliminate this person in this dictator in our country. So we are here to support our revolution in country. People want a revolution regime change in our country.

Dozens of Iranian Americans gathered here downtown Minneapolis. You could feel the range of emotions here at the rally. There were hugs and some tears of joy mixed with dancing and rejoicing. Many people tell me they're relieved, and in this moment they're hopeful for change.”

For years, the Chinese Communist Party bet its Middle East strategy on the survival of Iran’s regime.

Xi Jinping called America a “declining power.” Beijing signed a strategic pact with Iran and relied on its leaders to counter U.S. influence.

Now that bet has collapsed.

When America's strength is tested, it delivers. And the world is watching.

We cannot tolerate a nuclear-armed Iran. The Iranian regime’s pursuit of nuclear capabilities, ballistic missile development, and support for terrorist proxies pose serious and longstanding threats to the national security of the United States and our allies. Iran has enormous stockpiles of missiles and one-way attack drones and the industrial capacity to continue to expand its arsenal. If the Iranian regime were allowed to continue developing ballistic missiles, it would soon be able to shield its nuclear facilities by threatening a grave and immediate response to any attack.

Iran is also the world’s leading sponsor of terrorism. It has spent nearly half a century attacking Americans directly and through terrorist proxies, beginning with the 1979 seizure of the U.S. Embassy in Tehran that resulted in 66 Americans being held hostage for 444 days and continuing with the numerous devastating attacks against American service members and civilians in Lebanon, Saudi Arabia, Iraq, and more. In the October 7, 2023, massacre, Iranian-backed Hamas terrorists killed 1,200 people, including 46 Americans, in what was the deadliest single day for the Jewish community since the Holocaust. The list of the Iranian regime’s crimes against America and our allies goes on and on.

The Constitution gives Congress an essential role in matters of war and peace. Sustained combat operations require full engagement with Congress. The Administration has adhered to the provisions of the War Powers Act that require notification to Congress within 48 hours of hostilities commencing, and it has provided numerous classified briefings to Congress.

Passing this resolution now would send the wrong message to Iran and to our troops. At this juncture, providing unequivocal support to our service members is critically important, as is ongoing consultation by the Administration with Congress.

In all seriousness, this represents a significant shift in American foreign policy.

The big frustrations for war vets:

OIF: Enemy safe haven in Iran
OEF: Enemy safe haven in Pakistan
Vietnam: Enemy safe haven in Cambodia

International waters argument aside, it appears we can finally try to finish fights without an arm and a leg tied behind our backs. Restricted by geography.

This is a bigger deal than most realize, and will likely upset the globalist crowd.

Oh well.

quote:

I have been thinking along the same lines as LTC Dort's post below, but I would like to expand on it.

I think the problem has been an extension of Cold War force of habit.

The Soviets funded and equipped North Korea, North Vietnam, Cuba, Grenada, Nicaragua, etc.—every one of our Cold War military opponents.

The Chinese did much of the same, especially in Korea and Vietnam.

Meanwhile, we were funding and equipping the Mujahideen in Afghanistan while the Soviets were fighting there, and we were equipping our allies across the globe in proxy fights with the Soviets and the Chinese.

Now here is the thing: Us? The Soviets? Red China? Nuclear powers all. So there was an unwritten rule that while each of us could equip our allies in the background, we could never directly attack each other because nuclear war would result.

Somehow that “hands off” policy stayed pervasive, even when dealing with proxies who were NOT nuclear.

We spent forty five years allowing the Iranians to kill American servicemen and women because—intentionally or subconsciously—we were playing by Cold War rules when we no longer needed to.

It took Donald Trump and Pete Hegseth to figure this out, while all of our “academics” and “think tanks” were still wallowing in this antique Cold War philosophy.
