Obama: Cummings showed us 'the importance of checks and balances'

Former President Barack Obama said Thursday morning that he and his wife Michelle Obama are "heartbroken" over the death of Rep. Elijah Cummings (D-Md.).
In a statement shortly after news of the congressman's death broke, the former president said that Cummings's tenure as chairman of the House Oversight Committee showed the importance of "good people" overseeing the nation's system of checks and balances.
"Michelle and I are heartbroken over the passing of our friend, Elijah Cummings," the former president wrote. "As Chairman of the House Oversight Committee, he showed us all not only the importance of checks and balances within our democracy, but also the necessity of good people stewarding it."

Yes. Elijah got a lot of checks (but I'm sure he preferred unmarked bills in manila envelopes), and I'm sure he had a nice bank balance. Thanks for reminding us you corrupt Chicago gangster POS.
