Quite right. And the less-reported part of the story yesterday was Paul Manafort talking to Konstantin Kilimnik (his Ukrainian-born, naturalized-Russian GRU associate) about the Ukrainian settlement in February 2017, long after Paul had left the chairmanship. The deal was supposed to put Yanukovych, who's currently cooling his heels in Moscow, back on top in Ukraine. Party of Regions(/whatever they call it now after Yanukovych fled) is in the Russian sphere and Kilimnik is too.
Think about it this way - why does Paul Manafort think Trump campaign polling data is going to get him out of debts with Russian or Russian-aligned Ukrainian oligarchs?
This has always been about Ukraine and Putin feeling like the USA was stepping on his nuts in his sphere.

I don't think you get it, baw. This is like distinguishing an American giving classified info to the Communist East Germans vs. to the Soviets in the Cold War. It's a distinction without much of a difference.

But Ukraine is really what this scandal seems to be about. In 2014, Putin moved into Crimea. We sanctioned Russia. Putin decided he needs an empire and money flowing to his oligarchs to avoid ending up like Qadaffi and has been coming after the West. We were sleeping on it, but hopefully are waking up.
