2017 is pre-woke for noosecar right?

There was a post here about the get woke go broke was really go broke get woke, as if getting woke was an attempt to save a failing business/sports league.

Rick Hendrick Incorporated. Bill France would have never let this happen.

I been a NASCAR fan all my life. My Father and Uncle were stock car racers in North Carolina in the 50’s and 60’s. I’ve met quite a few of the legends from back then. I’ve been to many races in my life.

That said, they’ve ruined what was a great regional and cultural sport. This year was the first year in my life that I didn’t watch the Daytona 500. They’ve ruined it for me.

NASCAR fricked up about 15 years ago when they abandoned their core audience trying to go national. That backfired bigly and their core audience never came back.

I’m super interested and perplexed by the mindset that goes into corporate wokeism.

First about 20 years ago they started abandoning all the old Southeastern tracks, that all had a different character, got 1.5 miles cookie cutter tracks across the country. Then the Car of Tomorrow 12-15 years ago really finished off the good ole boys

NASCAR is a southern regional sport. It’s core fans are very blue collar, working class people. People from small towns that have a local dirt track kind of folks, stock car racing is cheap and grass roots. In the 90’s when it hit its peak, nascar did everything possible to run off those fans and replace them with upper middle class people with megabucks to spend. Then Dale Earnhardt died at Daytona. Shortly thereafter, Adam Petty also died. It started a downward spiral that they can’t stop. Instead of cultivating new cult like superstars, they decided to get politically correct. They started moving races to places that didn’t have fans and cancelling races at traditional tracks. Fans left in droves.

Then, Bubba Wallace happened. The funny part is that he isn’t their first black driver. If you go to local tracks, there are plenty of black drivers out there. The BW noose basically called every nascar fan a racist if they dare disagree. That was the death blow to the sport.

I’ll never go back, I’d like to see it fail and be replaced with a true grass roots league that focuses on smaller venues and non-corporate teams. Like it was when I grew up.
