Its a requirement throughout the US to acquire a CDL.
I see Duffy cracking down on many states for various violations of CDL rules.
In cali they were supposed to revoke 17,000 CDLs but a judge held it up until March, nearly four months, due to "hardship to the drivers". Hmm imagine what hardship the families of those killed on the road feel in the four months waiting for an existing law to be implemented?
North Carolina has 54% of their CDLs issued in violation of federal law.
And lets not even get started on New York.

respondents above apparently have not traveled to foreign locations, using a international driving permit
in Japan, I had to get a Japanese drivers license to purchase a car for the year I was there. Required a full day school in Japanese lectures. and written material. Mandatory test completion was Japanese and I had no clue as to what was written, instructor informed just make an x here and all okey. Drove on other side of road, only street sign recognized was speed, and house numbering was based on date built, not sequence down the street. We did just fine.
In Greece, rented a minivan for the week, maps had English subtitles, Drove on other side of road, very small streets, and shift with left hand
In Scotland, rented a car, drove on other side of road, and learned to get out of the way of busses on the one lane roads. They did speak a little recognizable English,
In Saudi Arabia English subtitles well used, trick to driving home from ?Khobar at late night was to follow a Saudi driver about 200 yards behind. Camels would sleep on the road.
In Kuwait, friend had a roof top apartment over looking the only u-turn on the beachfront parkway. At parties we would listen to the sound of tires, a crash and rise to observe and rate the performance of the Kuwaiti kid in a souped up sports car.
In Malaysia, I got stopped for my only foreign traffic violation in 20 years of foreign travel . In a left drive minivan, diesel , 6 speed manual, returning from the Thai border. Speed trap, opened door several beer cans fall out and I go over to bamboo hut where trap is set up to give them my Texas drivers license. With discussion I convince them texas drivers license is good any where in the world, and I would like to pay the fine in cash on the spot, which amounted to about 10 bucks a person, and maybe I just put it under a rock on the counter. No problem
Purpose of this note, English only may be to limited a requirement that does not represent the driving task complexity, road conditions, vehicle capability etc.
