Judge blocks expedited deportations of those who entered the U.S. legally, possibly curtailing ICE courthouse arrests - CBS News LINK

quote:

The courthouse arrests have been reported in cities across the U.S., with videos emerging showing ICE officials detaining migrants immediately after their hearings conclude. In some cases, those taken into custody have been seen weeping and visibly distraught. The practice has been strongly decried by Democratic lawmakers and advocates, who say it punishes people who are trying to follow the legal process by showing up to their hearings.

In her opinion, Cobb found the Trump administration's efforts to be illegal, saying the lawsuit against the expedited deportations raised a "question of fair play." She noted the plaintiffs in the case, two migrants from Cuba and Venezuela, had "played by the rules," entered the country with the government's permission and attended their court hearings — and were nonetheless targeted for expedited deportation.

Oh my God!!!!! Weeping and visibly distraught????? By all means they should stay then.

Screw the judge, he doesn't have the authority to block Ice from enforcing federal law.

If legal (an open question considering how Biden used it), that "permission" was/is purely discretionary and Trump has the authority to kick their asses out.

They (and you) left out the part where they didn’t play by the rules and overstayed their visa .

They enterered "Legally" per the convoluted rules laid out by Biden where anyone who asked for Asylum was approved. These are illegal immigrants with a cover story provided by a corrupt administration for their own political purposes. Can't we just be honest about this and not pretend these people have followed the spirit of the law?

the parole program was basically an open borders policy. That's why millions flooded in.

Granted parole en masse, rather than on a case-by-case basis: Immigration parole is intended for individuals on a case-by-case basis for urgent humanitarian reasons or significant public benefit. Critics argue that the Biden administration's CHNV program, which allowed up to 30,000 migrants per month from specific countries to apply for parole, effectively created a new, categorical immigration pathway without Congressional approval or oversight, circumventing established visa processes.

Granted parole to individuals who did not meet the criteria of urgent humanitarian need or significant public benefit: Critics argue that the CHNV program allowed entry to individuals who lacked a legal basis for entering the US under existing immigration law. This, they contend, constitutes a departure from the intended purpose of the parole program.

Implemented programs with insufficient vetting and potential for fraud: Concerns were raised regarding the potential for fraud in the sponsor application process for the CHNV program, with reports of fraudulent documents and potentially criminal activity associated with sponsors, according to a report from Congressman Mark Green.

It's important to note that the Biden administration defended these parole policies as a lawful exercise of its authority to address border management challenges and regional migration issues. Proponents also highlighted that such programs could reduce illegal immigration by offering a legal pathway to enter the US.

The Trump administration formally ended the CHNV parole program and other Biden-era parole programs upon taking office. Legal challenges were mounted against the Biden administration's use of parole, including a successful lawsuit by the State of Texas that blocked a parole-in-place program for certain spouses of US citizens. In May 2025, a court decision allowed the Trump administration to revoke the temporary legal status granted under the CHNV program, impacting more than 530,000 immigrants.

As long as you know why I am asking the question.

Did he nominate or did someone signing for him nominate?

I do think it is horse shite that “we” encouraged and knowingly processed people into the country over the last 20 years then treat the same as criminals.

“We” need to control our borders and have laws that can’t be whimsically adjusted by administrations to suit political desires.

The above is exactly why it's done this way... letting them in but then booting them out IS distasteful to a large enough segment of society- or at least it was, I believe that is changing.

The progressives set this shite up so you're damned if you do let them stay (too many) and damned if you don't let them stay (it's mean).

We can't keep playing by their rules, "meanness" be damned.

“We” have laws. “We”also have allowed administrations to selectively enforce them. “We” need to stop electing open-borders Democrats.

At this point, I think every action he took in 4 years is open to question. He wasn’t making any decisions on his own, he wasn’t mentally capable
