I hate bringing these pungent foreigners into the country and then they turn around and stab us in the back.

I know what you mean, brother. My dad fought through Vietnam off a shite hole coast of a shite hole country for the same.

But I bet both would say that unfortunately they actually did indeed fight for their right to say the most outlandish stupid shite possible.

Love the Pic. I find it very 1ntersting to look at photos like this and try and deduce things.

First off... 3 japanese Prisoners.. They seem to be in US denim jeans and shirts.. New jeans at that. ANd they had to have been taken most likely in some ground offensive.
Looks to be aboard ship. With all the pulleys, cables and rigging I would say an Attack Transport
Of course they all seem to be wearing US MArine Gear.
Your grandfather though has a unique belt he is wearing. Seems to have a small pair of binoculars on the belt.
(Edit- research showing it is an US Navy M1926 inflatable floatation belt, those things that look like binoculars are Co2 cartridges for inflation.)
WHile the other MArines are wearing jackets, your GF is not.
Helmet cocked to the side and with the prisoners seems to say that he has some kind of authority for the prisoners or closeness to whatever officer is issuing orders about the prisoners.. Seems they are all looking and concentrating on something or someone (Most Likely) off the camera screen.
Your GD has no rank on him that I can see and from the photo he appears to be in his early 30's. I am not viewing him as a first line attack soldier, I would wager that he had some other position, but one of importance.
I would also say that this was a fairly early war Pic.. 42-43 due to most of them men still wearing the m41 Jacket.

So... How close am I?

edit II - This is what an Attack Transport looks like. And I view that very close to your GF picture.

Amen my friend. My father fought in WWII. He was a torpedo man on PT 220, squadron 16 and served in the South Pacific. I miss him daily, but I’m glad he is not alive to see the state of the country he fought for.

What? Are you serious?

Our largest ally was the premier Communist country on the face of the Earth.

Our own President introduced a “bill of rights” as a war measure in 1944 that would have effectively nationalized the economy for once and all.

Our next biggest ally DID begin nationalizing everything when Labour won power, post-war.

We helped EMPOWER Marxism and Socialism in WWII. And by war’s end, men like George Patton and George Marshall realized it. Patton was especially vocal that we’d made a terrible mistake. That’s one of the reasons there was such an anti-Communist backlash postwar. Americans realized that we had knowingly fed that Red monster as part of official policy. Our own government lied and painted the Soviet Union as… wait for it… Freedom Fighters. Mythologizing Stalin was official fricking policy!

We were in no way shape or form “fighting against Marxism”. Hell our own leaders openly admired it.

One last post on here.

Genocide?? I don't think that it was discovered that Genocide was happening until the war was almost over. I don;t believe that an camp was discovered by US, English or French troops until APril 1945, when Dachau was taken by the 45th infantry.

So no.. I don;t believe that US troops were fighting to prevent genocide. I think that they were fighting to just get back home.

Most of the WWII letters that I have read don;t mention things like reasons why.. They do say things like live in World Peace, a better world, etc... And they knew their mission was important. BUt I don;t think that the vast majority of them truly understood any of the politics.

The troops had a great hatred for the Japanese that they did not have for the Germans or Italians. To them it wasn;t Germany that threw them into a war, drafted them, and made them spend 5 years of living hell in the Pacific. It was the Japanese with the bombing of Peral Harbor.

Allied governments knew as early as 1942. They just chose to keep the bombing to military objectives to bring about an end to the war.

So your saying that the Government under a Democrat President kept the truth from the people?

Nooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo.. It can't be true.

But I find no evidence of any kind that your average GI knew anything about genocide or extermination until after the war.
