Also, WTF is that shite about getting a life sentence if a felon has some weed on em? That's bullshite.

Second offense possession of pot is an automatic felony in Louisiana. If you're already a convicted felon and get a felony possession charge you can be sentenced as a habitual offender.

On the contrary, I've spent a lot of time with a good bit of them before and currently and some of them are the most stand-up, hard working individuals I know.

I bet most of those people you knew also drink alcohol regularly. Should we bring prohibition back?

Responsible people would not smoke weed all day every day just like they don't drink all day everyday

yes

that's nice of you. It sounds like a better way to go than a standard fire.

LA already has a marijuana tax in place, as LA Dept of Revenue sells MJ tax stamps, so legalization would probably have less hurdles in place than in other states.

Still doesn't mean that it is a good idea to fully legalize it.

I'd rather Washington and Colorado work out the various bugs in this process before considering it so that people know what we're getting into.

For instance, anyone who gets a license to buy and smoke pot in Colorado is warned that they are giving up their ability to own or operate firearms since pot is still considered a disqualifying factor in getting approval to purchase guns.

I don't see that going over well down here, where the hunting and gun culture is pretty well ingrained.

You don't need a special license to buy marijuana in Colorado.

You don't even need to be a resident of co to walk into a store and buy a quarter.

It will be harder for underage kids to get weed if itslegal. I know in high school it was harder for me to get beer than weed.

I'm for it as long as they tax the ever loving piss out of it.

Never understood this argument, unless someone just loves taxes.

We're going to need money for unemployment after all the 18-year olds fry their brains and become unemployable.

Look man. Weed just destroyed two families I'm close to. Making it legal will only result in higher usage rates, and all the negatives that go with it, along with NO positives to offset them, besides the tax money. Even if it is legal, it should be discouraged in every way, shape and form.

I'm sorry for what has happened to those close to you, but this is just false.

The vast majority of people are in favor of some form of legalization

I must've missed the link.

But ... let's assume that's correct, and not just from some High Times poll.

1) Since when does "the will of the people" matter anymore? Didn't they put gay marriage to a vote in CA and the "no gay marriage" majority won? What happened then?

2) Make it interesting ...make a deal such as:

- OK, weed is legal, but:
-- if you sell to children or allow children to smoke it ... bullet to the head.
-- if you smoke weed, you forfeit all rights to any government assistance at any level.
-- Drug testing for welfare eligibility.
-- etc.

If you make a deal in such a way that everyone gets something they want ... it'll go over better.

I too love government waste and also hate the constitution.

Well that's a bit overkill....and dumb. I'd support the same measures we employ for booze and cigarettes though.

The next time you take a sip of alcohol, you forfeit your right to social security.

Have you missed the other threads showing that the cost-benefit ratio is usually negative in this case? It sure was in Florida.

Well, a less stressful life, for one. I'm sure that's pretty positive.
