What a load of fricking shite.
A lot of piddly cases are just "the person who runs out of money first for lawyers loses. That isn't the case here, but the system is likely rigged in some way I don't know about.
The legal system is rigged and lawyers are mostly fee grubbing scumbags.

Did Carroll ever pay taxes on that 6.4M gift? Curious how this works, as it is a substantial gift by an individual and not a pro bono case of the law firm writing off the cost.

Those TX stock market guys should be pushing this hard. The NY court system is utterly corrupt and politically biased and it is wildly irresponsible to place your assets or certainly your employees themselves into their grasp.
