I imagine a majority of people agree. I don't think protesting during the Anthem is appropriate or effective.

But it's still a lie to say that they were protesting the flag or anthem or the military.

Then why kneel during the national anthem?

That was rhetorical.

If you throw your wife's food on the ground to protest animal cruelty, do you think she will believe you when you say it's not about her food?

MNF ratings were up
Players say that comments have been overwhelmingly positive
Polling shows that the public is more critical of what Trump did than the players.

I don't see how the NFL "lost" anything

Your analogy would make sense if the players were disrupting the Anthem. Kneeling during the Anthem doesn't prevent others from honoring the flag in whatever manner they see fit.

A better analogy would be if someone refused to eat a steak your wife cooked because they were vegetarian. Would that be an insult to your wife's cooking?

Players are crying because fans are ripping them at games and on twitter. They had no idea what they were getting themselves into.

So the originator of the protest, Kaepernick, says he won't stand for the flag or anthem because they don't represent his America. Then other players join suit in supporting his views. But now, we are supposed to pretend the original intent was never stated and this has nothing to do with the flag or anthem? Got ya.

To be fair to kaepernick, he wasn't necessarily looking for attention. He didn't announce he was doing it. When he wa asked by the media about it he said he refused to stand for the anthem of a country that oppresses black people.

So it was about the anthem. From his own mouth.

Yes to all of this. I might add, if the networks had refused to place the camera on the kneelers, there never would have been a controversy at all.

If it wasn't then why did they protest the flag during the national anthem?

I see people protesting during the anthem. Assuming they are protesting the anthem and the country is not exactly THAT big of a stretch.

They are fools for not understanding their protest is going to be perceived as that.
