My recollection is that people mostly agreed that Queen was a crappy, irrelevant band, until Freddie Mercury died of AIDS. The media / Democrat line was that Ronald Reagan wasn't "talking about" AIDS enough, so suddenly Freddie Mercury became some kind of musical deity that Reagan basically killed.

I pay extra on my streaming not to have to watch commercials.
It’s the worst thing about live sports on tv. It’s the only time they can push this propaganda on me. If I could pay extra to not be annoyed by woke commercials in live tv I would.

If that was your takeaway about Queen until 1991, your ability to judge musical significance is called into question in totality.
