re: Navy officer applies to become the first ever woman to join the elite SEALs

quote:Well to be fair, SOCOM welcomed women with open arms. They didn't even attempt to put up a fight against women in their units. The USMC is the only service that even tried. And I'd argue that the special forces community relies more on technology, training and massive amounts of logistical and intelligence support than they do unit cohesion. Unit cohesion is probably more important to the infantry. Especially since real infantry operations are more taxing and take a larger toll on the body than typical SOF operations do. If anything, SOF should be allow women before the regular infantry does. SOF forces tend to be older and more career oriented. The infantry is a bunch of young kids out of high school.
Well, sorry sweetheart, but as special as the Marines are, they aren't same as the special forces community which relies on unit cohesion more than any other area of the military.

About women in the military

Oh does the year make a woman stronger, faster? More mentally strong?
Nope.
quote:
No it doesn't not when you are talking in the aggregate, which is what we're discussing here.
It absolutely does for this topic. We're talking about a selective process, not bulk intake of bodies.
quote:
Yes, because prove is the correct word here.
No, it isn't. You've proven nothing, and even the Marine Corps had to selectively edit their report to get their point across.
quote:
When you put what you want above what's best for a team you have disqualified yourself from being on that team. Whether you are male or female. In fact in the military sometimes you are in a position where you must choose whether to sacrifice yourself to save said team. A person who forces their way onto a team that is better off without them isn't likely to choose to make that sacrifice.
Goes both ways.

This was my point.
quote:
Special operators are alpha males, alpha males who are in superb physical condition, now drop a physically attractive female in their midst and watch unit cohesion fall apart.
Back to where we started. "Men are weak. Keep women away."

Everyone who has served knows about minimum physical requirements. It's drilled into your head. "you must be able to......." to stay in the military.
Minimum standards don't keep you in a SEAL platoon.

This is what Norway did. An all female special forces unit.
Pretty good documentary on it i watched on youtube
but my god those females were an emotional wreck going through training. Now imagine that happening in combat.

If a woman outperforms other men, I expect you'd support her selection
Well ok. This has never happened and never will. I'm glad to see you have come around

I don't care what you think about the WNBA
Then don't ask me questions about the WNBA.

Yes or no?
I already answered this.

Your argument about training resources is a solid point,
So today that's a solid point but yesterday you claimed that was not a good point and simply making that point was evidence someone had not been to Coronado. Please nail down your argument.
Also, still reading through the thread and looking forward to reading those omitted study results you've surely posted by now.

I'm exactly where I started, unfortunately.

This poster actually backed up his point. Crazy how that works.

I didn't need to. Someone else already posted it.

Ok
And. There has never been a time when a selected woman outperformed all non selected men who applied.
There never will be such a time.
So. Thanks for coming around.

That's complete bullshite. Personal trainers are staffed at the base gym and are free to anyone with access. The heavies can use them, dependents can use them, retirees can use them, etc.
You must have been to some sweet duty stations. I've never seen a military gym with personal trainers.

You're correct. I did
And then. You disregarded the point as something i didn't really care about.
THIS, despite it being literally my only point of objection.
You'll note. I've said nothing about cohesion, panties etc etc

I already made that point pages ago.

You aren't missing much. They don't seem to be very useful.

I questioned why this was your main point of contention on training resources.

I pointed it out. You're the one getting stirred up about it.
