The golden mean.

Thank you Aristotle.

Nationalism, racism, socialism, sexism, are not necessarily wrong unless they move into hyper extremist territory.

That’s not what the moniker “nationalist” really means.

Uh, I'm pretty sure that is what Trump is trying to do, depower the federal government. Relieve us of some personal tax burdens, relief us from too many government restrictions, relieve us from the strain of illegal immigration are three big ones I can think of.

Maybe you need to rethink your definition.

I dont think you understand my point. Judging by the upvotes/downvotes im not sure anyone does.

Nationalism on its own is not bad. I like it. Rah Rah! American excellence. USA USA. etc. etc. etc.

However, an unwanted (by me) consequence of an unfettered reverence of the nation is that its easier for the federal government to gain more and more power. This is true.

In Trumps case, nationalism has been used by a person to gain the ability to neuter the federal government. This is unusual and very fortunate.

I'm not saying Nationalism is bad or that it requires you to support a huge federal government. Ironically in fact, most nationalistic people are small government people (or claim to be) and vice versa. It just makes it more likely.

However, the benefits are many.

Wasn't Germany unified nearly a century later than the USA? Same with Italy?
