Crime in Memphis will probably stop tomorrow.

Also the commander at the battle of fort pillow. Where hundreds of surrendering soldiers, mostly black were killed,

Nathan Bedford Forrest
Was the greatest military mind the Tri-Star state has ever produced, and a true native son. Forrest espoused racial reconciliation after the war, and was at the forefront of rebuilding the communities that were destroyed during the war. The US tried, and failed miserably, to blame him for Ft Pillow. Marxist Historians have straight up fabricated bullshite about the man.
Had Davis listened to Forrest, we wouldn't be in this mess. When it's time for rd 2, Less Lee, More Forrest.

I'm not okay with the removing statues crowd, but General Froest shouldn't have been there in the state capital in the first place.
1. Are you a Tennessean?
2. State can do what state wants to do.
3. He was a figure to the state's history.
4. He was a democrat, so I don't mind it being removed, but it should stay to remind the democrats.

Multi generation Tennesseean here. I think if anything his bust should be on exhibit at the state capitol in a way that highlights the shame he brought onto our state. Can’t erase history. Complex, yet ultimately dark and evil legacy.
Otherwise totally fine with them removing any mention of his existence from our actual capitol building. His bust should be displayed with proper context at a location like the Tennessee State museum just a few blocks down the hill.

Tell that to the thousands of black and white Republicans that had to swing from a tree that opinion.

The battle which the federals were initially given an ultimatum to surrender prior to the fight but refused.
And it’s clear that there was not a complete surrender upon storm of the fort. There was resistance.
And command broke down upon entering the fort. Forrest didn’t ride into the fort… point his sword… and demand the killing of black soldiers. Didn’t happen. Could he have done more to not allow it? Sure. Could the federal commanders have surrendered and prevented an overwhelming defeat by pissed off Confederates? Yes they could have.
The history of Fort Pillow was written by the North who used it as a rallying cry.
And as far as taking POWs…. You do know Sherman used Confederate POWs to clear minefields.. right? And destroyed innocent southerner’s homes and property? He also said.. “ “War is cruel. The crueler it is, the sooner it will be over.”

It depends.
These statues, and monuments were erected by southerners.
If southerners want to take them down, that would be one thing. The problem is that these monuments being destroyed by outsiders, who live in the south, but hate the south, and hate southerners.
And they’re not doing it because or anything that happened in the past.
It’s a battle for control of over the south, as it exists now, and it’s an attempt to destroy southern culture, and replace it with their own, foreign values.
It’s a show of force. Yes. But worse, they’re making room for their own culture, which they will cram down our throats.

They could move it to Gainsville Al to the confederate cemetary there. Gainsville is where he and his men were paroled by the union.

I understand your thoughts. Many historians credit him with being a grand wiz of the kkk. Do you know if this is accurate or not? We do know that he was a democrat. Thanks.

No clue what his specific title was, just know that he is credited with founding the Ku Klux Klann. A stain to the legacy of our state and country

I don't know. My question that I don't know the answer is if he was a grand wiz of the kkk. Do you know, because I don't.
I am familiar with the KKK having roots in it's establishment to keep Republicans from reconstruction.

was fixing to post similar. From memory of my college years, the great NBF left the KKK because of the direction it took (targeting blacks). He wanted nothing to do with that.

Not just on the Civil War either.

No war generals age well. That’s why I think it’s good that we no longer glorify them.
We can remember history without statues.
