Where did you see this? I didn't see it in any links.

Look at the actual petition

Ok. I see where they did the petition in March. But I can't imagine the prom being scheduled in March. Typically it is scheduled before the school year, and work/plans start in the Fall. I am not saying this is the case here, because I would imagine every school is different, but, I would be surprised if this wasn't on the school calendar at the start of the school year.

I was part of the "Prom committee" at my HS. We may have planned the prom earlier, but we didn't release the dates till the spring.

The Prom was likely scheduled well before March, but the date hadn't been released till the Spring. The school couldn't change the dates because, like you said, too many things had already been scheduled.

The school has said they will address this issue in the future.

This is a complete non issue.

Read the OP again.

The OP is about the Muslims wanting to change the dates of the prom, is it not?
It does go on to ask what would happen if Christians had done the same thing, and I notice you have not called anyone down for not sticking to that point.

However, the title of the OP clearly states that they expect the school to bow to their demands. Their demands are based upon several points....the main one being they are restricted in their activities during Ramadam. I pointed out that that was not entirely true.

Maybe he was saying he "could care less", but "he didn't care enough to care less"

I will say this....the comments at the bottom of the petition are shocking and wrong. I would say that there is little doubt they are based in hate.

I was, too. I was a class officer and we were the prom committee. We began planning in the Fall, and the dates were on the school calendar at the beginning of the school year. I cannot imagine a date being held back and off the calendar. (In fairness, however, I went to school in the dark ages, so things have changed in a lot of ways. I can't remember with my kids how it was handled)

I didn't make the thread.
And it would seem any thread is fair game to be made. There are tons of non issues with threads on the board, so I am not sure why some are upset about a thread being started about it.

I know. But you have been adamantly defending the OP.

I'm not upset.

No.

Which is not correct.

How so? I merely pointed out that the reasoning the Muslim students used were not valid. And they aren't.

Here is the title of the OP:
Muslims students expecting U.S. public school to bow to their demands?P

That is what the title of the OP says. I'm not sure how you can argue that point.

I addressed the intention of the OP. Which was the Muslim students wanting to change the date of the prom.
I won't play semantics with you.

Did I say or insinuate that anywhere? Their reasoning for the petition was not valid. They could have gone to the prom as it was dated.

Your disagreements, misconceptions, or dislike of their points do not make their points invalid.

You state that their reasons are not valid.

If their reasons are not valid, what other reasons would they start a petition?

Sure, which is why you've been making irrelevant points.
