So you wouldn't allow your 11 year old to ride her bike around the corner unsupervised? Walk a couple blocks to school? Those activities are normal for an 11 year old and are part of increasing freedom and responsibility slowly to make them independent adults. Those activities are also much more likely to to expose a child to creeps than sitting in a locked car. If she was hot, she can go inside.

12 year olds are registered with the police department here as certified babysitters.

That's crazy. I was driving when I was 11. And no, it wasn't legal. I could barely reach the clutch but I once did manage to drive my sister to the emergency room at that age.

Times have really changed.

Yes. 100. People are afraid of a statistic that states 100/75,000,000 will be kidnapped in a year.

but why take the chance, keeping my kids locked in their rooms is the only way to really ensure they'll see adulthood. It's ok though, they have computers and video games to keep them occupied. For my son's birthday we let him come outside for a few minutes for cake, but then a strange car (black man) came down the street going a little too slow for comfort. He was obviously looking for someone to kidnap and give drugs to, so back to the vault (our little nickname for his room) he went. Thankfully the police sent a car to drive down our street a few hours later, we felt much safer then.

BTW, if any of you have young kids, don't even think of letting them ride in the car without getting a mechanical engineer to test your installation of the car seat...if you don't your kids will die.

From a car the kid locks from the inside?

This is a made up version of a law to fit a dumb fricking agenda. 11 yr olds CANNOT have constant supervision.

You sir are not a smart person

You are the paranoid creep.

You need to get off the internet - too much info is destroying your common sense.

Something that happens to 1 out of every 1 million kids...is something that weighs on your mind every time you go to the store?

I bet you worry about Ebola too...and Malaria and getting your Kidney stolen at a bar.
