6K? Sounds like a weak dove season in South Texas.

How much of that is due to the lack of investment and availability of research in newer safer nuclear technologies to where you are building something entirely new from scratch?
It’s more due to the stringent regulations from the NRC.
The permitting alone is $15 million.

We the People need to start putting those responsible for these tax payer funded boondoggles in prison for life.

That’s a drop in the bucket for an $8B project (rough estimate for a 1GW reactor)
The uncertainty is the killer. These projects get hammered with pre-NTP litigation. The whole time you have IEs, lawyers, finance bros stacking fees and threatening damages if you don’t deploy this capital. But you can’t because the NIMBYs got you shut down while the local judge tries to figure out why you went to his a-hole cousins land and not his.

Solar at best is about 25% efficient and will never return the energy required to manufacture, install, and maintain a field.
But this place didn't use solar panels..

How much energy did it ever produce?
