She demonized DDT as a carcinogen and got the country's attention. She was wrong. Good read

Rachal Carson started a movement that was based on bad science

My grandfather had a DDT pump that he sprayed inside the tent during camping trips(according to stories told to me by my father).

Apparently that shite worked really well.

If I could find a state that gave tax credits, I would make a documentary of this story.

I lived in the Mississippi Delta in the mid 50s and we had spray planes flying over our house all the time and I can smell DDT even now. I don't know about eagle eggs and shite but I'm fine. My kids make fun of me and I still chase cars but it's all good.

DDT dust was used on new inductees in the military to kill lice and such on the men before moving them into the barracks.

Millions of lives lost to malaria, and maybe we saved some birds.

I have no knowledge of that but my grandfather served in WW2 and Korea. Received a Purple Heart during Black Tuesday over Namsi. (Which forever changed American aircraft bombing policies)

It’s accepted science that environmentalists don’t understand the environment, and are incapable of logical thought.

The stuff that really smelled was toxaphene. DDT didn't have that much odor.

You knew you were in cotton country when you smelled that toxaphene.

So you’re saying that some people will lie about or misinterpret science in order to reach personal and political gains?

No kidding?

DDT can’t be that bad. My dad tells us how he and his friends used to get on their bikes and follow the mosquito spraying trucks for miles and miles. He’s doing just fine.

That is an extremely naive and uneducated response. Al Gore assures me we are killing earth unless we give him money to fix the problem.

That was something we used to love to do in the Summer mid-1970’s. Your father isn’t exaggerating.

The eggshell bit was made up. The researcher actually got in trouble years later for feeding low calcium diets to the eagle group to produce thin shells.

The same people are pulling the same shtick now with Roundup.
These people are repetitively insane.

Did it look like this?

My grandmother used to spray this over us before we went to bed in the summertime because it killed the 'skeeters.

Back in the early 80’s in Triana, which is close to Huntsville Al, the Olin company agreed to pay for the healthcare of local residents who had elevated levels of DDT in their bodies. They paid untold money for the cleanup and something like $20 million to about 1000 residents that were affected. I remember seeing some of these people on the news that looked to be 90 years old talking about having DDT in their bodies. If not for the DDT they probably would have died 20 years earlier from malaria.
