HUGE fans of socialism all of a sudden. lets recap, shall we:

No it's not. Not at all. They are not given cash. Everything they work for, they earn. It's all applied to their education.

No I didn't. You stated they work and everything is shared. That's not true at all.

They work, and each student gets 100% credit for what they did..... not what mastrshake did. And mastrshake doesn't get credit for what Mr Ty did.

so each student basically pays for their individual tuition, room, and board by working? its a clean 1 for 1?

or is it more like 3 out of 10?

College of the Ozarks

When I read your description I thought it was going to be Deep Springs.

It's an all-male College of less than 30 students in the middle of nowhere in California.

The nearest town is an hour away by car and that town only has 4,000 people.

The College has rare phone use.

Professors may not hold tenure.

Tuition, room and board are not charged.

In addition to studies, every student must work 20 hours a week on the Ranch.

Students hold positions at the College as: cook, irrigator, butcher, groundskeeper, cowboy, "office cowboy," dairy, and feedman.

The College maintains a cattle herd.

The entire Deep Springs community (students, staff and faculty) numbers less than 50 individuals.

Deep Springs alumni have been awarded Rhodes and Truman Scholarships, three MacArthur “genius grants”, two Pulitzer Prizes, one Emmy award, and one E. O. Lawrence award, among other honors.

Yep, there are some real idiots in this thread.

Who would have thought an education with no government money would be a bad thing?

Considering that they use Pell Grants, Federal Educational Opportunity Grants, and State Grants to show how they minimize costs and make up the difference if necessary, “no government money” is clearly false.

The cost of education is $18,700 and the 600ish hours of work is worth $4,354 (basically minimum wage). They then apply any Grants, scholarships, etc., and then the school makes up the difference.

Explanation of Costs

Freshman are prohibited from using their vehicles on campus from Monday till Friday. That means you can’t check your car out to travel off campus during the week.

Absolutely no alcohol consumption by any student, regardless of age, and it doesn’t matter if you’re on campus or not. A 22 year old student drinking a beer at home over the weekend is in violation of C of O’s Code of Conduct.

Reasonable suspicion of alcohol or drug use will require the student to take and pass a drug test.

No on campus activities on Sunday. Baseball series are concluded with a double-header on Saturday.
