Jesus was a Jew, living in a Jewish community. It's a given that homosexuality was forbidden. Still all sort of besides the point of the Gospel.

Wrong.

Jesus is referring them to scripture. The passage begins, "Have you not read..."

He is offering an admonishment against homosexuality by referring them to Genesis.

You need to read the Gospels again, if you missed the context.

I agree. NyNola just asked if Jesus really said that. The only obvious prohibitions against homosexuality were Pauline, and more than likely that was because of Gentile proselytization where communities may not have had as strict a view on sodomy as the Hebrews.

No they were not...

I gave you a very specific verse that is attributed to Jesus condemning sexual immorality... He said it, it is your problem if you don't like it...

I have seen no source to indicate that any of them were Roman Citizens.

I think we are all being too antagonistic for being in agreement in substance.

You are simply incorrect.

I have several more NT passages to point you, but the effect of each verse is lost if you don't get the context as well as the OT cross references.

Please go pick up a red letter edition Bible, if it will help you.

You need to read the New Testament in it's entirety. Also, when the Lord is speaking, he FREQUENTLY refers to Old Testament passages (like a rabbinical scholar). You need to then go read the Old Testament.

A reference Bible will help you identify the easiest way to do this. Do you have a Bible study at your Church?

No. We have Orthros and the Divine Liturgy. My priest is available for any questions I have, though.

Not really... Jesus did not prohibit beastiality according to your view and interpretation but he did when he said "sexual immorality" defiles us... Defiles is mentioned again in the Bible as making us unclean and keeps us from God and in cases even sets us outside of worship...

So, adultery, homosexuality, beastiality, and a whole host of other acts are covered by "sexual immorality"...

Sin is sin...

What do you think she’ll say about it?

Women are not allowed ordination in the Orthodox Church.

That was said somewhat in jest, but you seem intent on denying something that’s pretty plain to most people with even a casual knowledge of the Bible, whether they’re believers or not. The idea that gay sex wouldn’t be included under the blanket term of “sexual immorality” (pornea in the Greek) for Jews in the first century just isn’t a serious one.

Similarly, it is ridiculous to dismiss the Letters of the Apostle Paul as if they are not direct teachings of the Holy Ghost.

Stating that Christ's proscription against homosexuality is purely a figment of St. Paul's writing, and similarly dismissing Paul's re-iteration of Christ's teachings is what you did.

It is absolutely incorrect.

He probably read in Psalm 91 where it says "The Lord is my refuge", thought it said 'refugee', and decided to roll with it.

That is not what I did at all. If you want to claim as much, all power to you. Rest assured that we are in agreement in almost all things that matter.

They were not. Judea was not a Roman province, but rather a client state with its own king.
