If your command is a 6 letter acronym with a / followed by a number and another letter, you're probably a bit bloated.

Yep. Totally agree. We have divisions brigades, and battalions already. No need for this other shite. Just put the joint service components subordinate to the highest level ground commander in theater.

There should be a navy and an army. The navy should be big and strong and the army intermittent, voluntary, and flexible. Most permanent members should be cadre.

Yes, with the air forces belonging to the Army and the Marines belonging to the Navy.
I'd also be open to the idea of a new branch for Cyber/Space/Nuclear warfare. Although I think the nuclear mission could probably be performed by the Navy anyway. But space and cyber are two completely new realms of warfare. And this new branch wouldn't be required to have the same rank structure or recruiting process as the Army and Navy. A blank canvas if you will to start a new branch. Physical fitness standards could be low and educational standards could be high. Pay could even be higher and drug use regulations more lax for all the fricking pothead hackers. The only problem is I haven't come up with a cool name for this new branch.
Just some thoughts. Open to suggestions.
