yeah, just responded after digging for a bit, but I appreciate it. Never looked at that angle.

I had always focused on the Balkan issue since it was the powder keg that put Europe at was, but the tensions between Germany (Wilhelm) and Britain (George V) were running very high at this time.
yeah, until you understand the relationships between the countries and their sovereigns as well as the complex system of alliances and agreements combined with the whole "national prestige" angle, it's hard to explain to the layperson why a largely inconsequential event (in the grand scheme of things) like the assassination of Ferdinand set the entire world on fire.
it's funny in hindsight thinking back to middle school and high school taking world history how the entire explanation of what started World War 1 was simply "the assassination of Archduke Ferdinand led to world war one". most semi educated people could tell you that. but then if you ask them to explain WHY that led to a world war, you will likely get crickets. it's very complex.

Look at photos of Tsar Nicholas, which is Russian for Caesar, the Kaiser, which is German for Caesar, and King George V.
They could be triplets/brothers. It is really an interesting rabbit hole.
ETA - And yet they started a war that killed millions upon millions of their innocent citizens over a family squabble, which led to WW11 - sic, and millions and millions of more deaths.
To hell with Royalty. They are no different and God did not ordain them to rule us.
