Most people in life see themselves as the protagonist of their own story.

Of course. And even the most altruistic people can’t help but see themselves as the center of the universe. It’s part of the human condition.

To quote Paris Reidhead, a far better and wiser man than I.

This got me. Because I’m also a sinner and I also love some of my sins. Ugh.

While nowhere near the magnitude of Paris Reidhead’s experience, this reminds me of when I was engaged to my husband. He wasn’t really a Christian or anything at the time and I was irritated that God didn’t send me a Catholic man to marry. I went to Eucharistic adoration and was praying about it when I heard the voice of Jesus ask me “What, did you think it would be easy?” This will shock everyone I’m sure, but I can be entitled at times.

My husband ended up converting a couple of years after we got married. I’m 99% sure he did it for me and not because he felt compelled to do it on his own but he still goes to mass and confession so I know it’s helping him get to heaven, which is my primary job to help him do as his wife. Our ten year anniversary is Sunday.

I really needed to be reminded of all of this, so thanks for posting.

I usually listen to the whole sermon every few years.

It's a great reminder for me to keep me centered.

Also happy anniversary.
