This is different than offering services termed "engineering" to the public.

In LA you aren't even supposed to have the word engineer in your job title, if your services are publicly offered, without a PE. We had to retitle about 80 staff in 2013(ish) because of this.

If you are doing work solely for use by the company that hired you, they can make your job title Grand Puba of Engineering for all the state cares.

Interesting. I only just moved back to LA for the first time in an Engineering position in 2016. I am also federal so I am not sure local license procedures impact me. Still, I might go ahead and register for the test in case I want to go private one day.

Engineers lobbied the state to allow them to determine who could practice in the state as a PE to limit competition. Outside of structural components most states have limited requirements for PE signatures on designs.....that is usually driven by insurance companies and financiers.......it usually isn't a function of the state
