Maersk said one of its commercial vessels recently transited through the Persian Gulf via the Strait of Hormuz under U.S. military protection.
It comes as the U.S. Navy seeks to deliver on President Donald Trump’s “Project Freedom” initiative to free ships trapped by Iran’s closure of the strait.
The Alliance Fairfax, a U.S.-flagged ship operated by Farrell Lines, a subsidiary of Maersk Line Limited (MLL), completed the journey without incident on Monday, the company said in a statement, with all crew members safe and unharmed.
The ship had been stranded at sea since the U.S. and Israeli-led war against Iran broke out on Feb. 28, Maersk said.

The World Economic Forum has identified key commodities (apart from oil) that are directly exposed to the risks of a blockade of the Strait, among them liquefied natural gas (LNG), liquefied petroleum gas (LPG), naphtha, ammonia, urea, sulphur, aluminium and helium.
+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
Key non-energy commodities include:
Fertilizer: 20–30% of globally traded fertilizer, including urea and ammonia, passes through Hormuz, with Gulf states accounting for nearly half of global urea exports.
Helium: Over 25% of the world’s helium supply, primarily from Qatar, is at risk if the strait is blocked; it is vital for semiconductors, MRI machines, and aerospace.
Aluminum and sulfur: The Middle East supplies significant aluminum, while nearly half of traded sulfur—used in fertilizers and refining—is stranded during disruptions.
Containerized and bulk goods: Electronics, consumer goods, and industrial materials move through hubs like Jebel Ali, while dry bulk ships carry food staples like rice, wheat, and soybeans into Gulf nations.
Automobiles, Steel, Construction materials specialties, almost anything else a society might use, but primary are listed above.
