Macron seems like a poor candidate. I think this race is much closer than polls project...I could see a scenario where Le pen voters are energized and Macron voters are not.
The only reason for these comments is to energize his voters. If he was up double digits he wouldn't make a risky move like this.

This socialist movement is dividing countries now and has reached the US. It's scary what my children will have to deal with. So much hate between people in the same country...it's very sad.

I don't understand why someone would think this is a good strategy. Pretty much every non-jihadist in France does not like seeing little children run over by trucks. To try and tell someone they are wrong for simply expressing that they do not want that kind of thing in their country is stupid but I can see the political angle. You neutralize the power of concerned citizens coming together for a safer France by lumping them in with radical hateful people who would want less Muslim immigration regardless of if there are terror attacks. Even the Macron supporters know that it's BS, but they are willing to overlook it for their own personal reasons.
To actually go strong ad-hom, attempting to shame and disgrace people who are tired of terror attacks for saying as much ... it is not going to work any better than Clinton's deplorable moment did here. It will strike a dissonant chord with some fence sitters.
