The "Occupational Licensing Review Act" basically seems to attempt to prevent professionals from using/advertising certification in their respective professions. This looks like it would apply to any profession which has any sort of non-government certification. I honestly can see 0 benefit in this. Am I missing something here?

Yes, you're missing the fact that this is already in place. This bill would revamp those certifications:

quote:

House Bill 748 up for debate today creates the Occupational Licensing Review Act. It would annually review approximately 20 percent of the state’s current occupational regulations and submit a report beginning Jan. 1, 2019, to legislative leaders, the governor and the attorney general.

The report would recommend the Legislature enact laws that would repeal some regulations and make some less restrictive.

Seems like this is a good thing, no?

Actually, just the opposite. She's been a champion for occupational license de-regulation.

Thanks for posting. I came to this thread to essential post the same thing.

This is aimed at reducing professional licensing (like florists and interior design).

Reading the bill and then the digest of the bill, I came to these conclusions.

1) Crap they make these things hard to read.

2) Not being a lawyer or even an OT lawyer it looks to me like this is actually aimed at minimizing regulations.

3) Crap they make these things hard to read, and being louisiana I have trouble trusting the digest.
