So far we have a few Russians who will never see a U.S. courtroom and a handful of process crimes with little or no relation to the stated purpose of the investigation.

How many millions for this?

It was about $7M as of early December. Let's call it $20M now to be generous (some things have ramped up). And then let's consider that the federal government spends about $8M every minute. That's $8M every minute of every hour of every day, year round.

Crazy, I know.

Honest Bob took a pay cut from millions to about $230K--barely a fraction of his worth.

Patriot.

People in their mid-70s leave $2M jobs for $200K jobs in hopes of it paying off later through a book deal?

[Formerly] drunken sailors aren't known for their financial management, but that doesn't make sense to me, bro.

Ride off into the speech circuit and make fricking bank.

That was the total cost. Bob doesn't make anything approaching $7M. He's on the federal pay band*. If he's paid per the highest rate of the executive schedule (I'm assuming he is, given legalities) that's about $210K on paper. Probably another $40-$60K in housing and benefits.

Bob Mueller will go down as one of the great American patriots of the early 21st century.

You're missing me, man. He could have made $10M in the span of time he's going to make about $800K. That's a big difference. There is no way to spin this as financially incentivized.

Nah. A couple of months off. Have winter (summer here) trips to Australia and Argentina on the books. Woody Woo in the fall. If you want to rent a house in Northern Virginia, let me know.

Yea, you're on top of it as usual.

You might find it interesting that Van der Zwaan is the son-in-law of Russian oligarch German Khan. Khan is affiliated with Alfa Bank. You know that's the bank that was mentioned by Steele as a financial institution that Steele's sources claim helped fund Russian efforts to influence the 2016 election.

You also remember that the Trump organization got an email in 2016 that had Alfa bank in the meta data of the sender. Trump's guys explained it away as being junk mail.

What do you think?

(One more tidbit::: Van der Zwaan worked for the law firm Scadden, Arps. Manafort's daughter also worked at Scadden, Arps -- but that just could be a coincidence, too.)

Van Der Zwaan also worked on a whitewashing of Victor Yanukovych's (Manafort's major patron in Ukraine) role in the political trial of his predecessor (Yulia Tymoshenko, referenced in the indictment).

I suspect this indictment is meant to send a message that Mueller isn't messing around with expectations of document production and candor.
